President’s Report April  2017

I hope you all had a very Happy and Peaceful Easter and received many Blessings. “I have risen and I am with you still, Alleluia” (Ps 138:18,5)

On 17th march, 2017, St Patrick’s Day the Wollongong Diocesan CWL celebrated the feast with lunch at  Murphy’s Bar & Grill at Unanderra. The lunch was attended by members of some of our Branches and was a great social day. Some of the Branches of CWL held functions in their areas.

The Annual Mass for the Unborn was celebrated by Father Ron Peters, Dean of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and Father Patrick Vaughan, CWL Diocesan Chaplain, on Friday 31st March 2017 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. The Mass is offered for who did not come to full term, for those babies who died at birth and for their Families. Lunch followed Mass and both were well attended.

On Friday 7th July, 2017 Wollongong Diocese CWL will be holding a Conference Day at the Xavier Centre, Wollongong commencing at 9.00am. We will be launching our updated History Book during this day. The theme for the day is “Be a Gift of Love and Compassion for one another” (Pope John Paul 11 at St Mary of the Cross Mackillop Beautification.) The Guest speakers on the day will be Father David Orr, past Chaplain to National CWLA Inc Executive and Mr Michael Moran, Head Archivist for St Vincent de Paul. Anyone who wishes to attend please be in contact with Mary Smith, Diocesan Secretary, on 42265588 or email marysmith@exemail.com.au by the 16th June 2017. You will be very welcome. The cost of the Conference will be $30.00 which includes morning tea and lunch.

Peg McEntee and I attended the Bathurst CWL Diocesan Conference on Sunday 26th March, 2017 which was held at Lithgow. The Guest Speaker was Sister Patricia Powell RSM who spoke to the words of Pope Francis on care for our common home and to ponder them in our hearts. Bishop Michael McKenna celebrated Mass in St Patrick’s Church Lithgow and attended the Conference and lunch. The CWL ladies of Lithgow were very hospitable and everyone enjoyed the day.

Please keep the people of Northern NSW and Queensland in your prayers as they start to clean up after the terrible floods. Murwillumbah is in a devastating mess but not as bad as Lismore. There is not a Branch of CWL in Lismore, there are members of CWL in Murwillumbah. One of the Lismore Diocesan CWL Prayer members, Norma McDonald’s step son, Peter, has lost a great deal of farm equipment and livestock. He lives near Norma.

Spring Morning Tea

October 29, 2012

Milton/Ulladulla – Annual Spring Morning Tea

When Kathleen Evans addressed a crowd of over 160 at our Spring Morning of coffee, cake and conversation on Saturday September 15 at Milton, she amazed the audience with the story of her remarkable journey towards being Mary MacKillop’s second miracle. A story now published in her recently released book entitled, Kath’s Miracle

She went on to sign more than 100 books at the event which Garry Evans, of the Ulladulla Harbour Bookshop, had made available for sale. Garry also donated a raffle book prize and more than 50 luckydoor prizes were handed out.

It was a beautiful weather day and the new St Mary’s Primary School hall, opposite the historic Milton church, provided a splendid venue. After the event Kathleen, her ever supportive husband Barry, and her daughter Annette, visited the church and its grounds.

Another special guest at the event was Federal Member and Mayor of the City of Shoalhaven, Joanna Gash.

All guests were impressed with the delicious food provided and President Joanne Clark, extended her sincere thanks to all Branch members.

Adjoining branches Dapto, Port Kembla and West Wollongong, as well as Diocesan President Sue Freestone were invited to join members and parishioners to celebrate in style.

Everyone dressed up but member Sue Meehan excelled in royal attire complete with tiara and ‘royal jewels”. Parish Priest Father Mark Okeefe joined in the festivities appearing in a court jester hat from Venice.

As it is the Queen’s 60th Jubilee guests were asked to mention any memories they had of the Queen and Royal Visit to Australia. Her visits to Wagga Wagga, West Wollongong, Portland, Blue Mountains were highlighted as well as photos shown.

The meeting room at the rear of Immaculate Conception Church Unanderra has never looked so glamorous and a fun afternoon was enjoyed by all present.
