The Ladies, especially Marie Handley, of St. Michael’s Parish Nowra, felt it was time to form a 21st century branch of the Catholic Women’s League.
At a morning get together on Tuesday 29th May the Ladies present decided to reconvene on Tuesday 12 th June to officially endorse the local group.
Carmel Maloney (Wollongong Diocesan President) and Margaret McMahon (Wollongong Diocesan Secretary) gave an informative overview of CWL, how branches run and the role of CWL in parish life. Two Ladies from Vincentia branch discribed how their group has been fuctioning to generate the means to assist others, while enjoying a great deal of pleasure themselves.
Kate Sergent (Diocesan Promotions Officer) had spoken at the initial get together and offered her support. Father Pat Faherty (Branch Spiritual Chaplain), agreed to and provided support for the formation of the branch.
Meetings are to be held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10:00am in the Polding Room of the new Parish Centre of St. Michael’s, North Street Nowra.
Seventeen Ladies have joined, several others have expressed an interest and all ladies of the parish are welcome to attend our meetings.
