Spring Morning Tea

October 24, 2011

The Zumba inspired Spring Morning Tea, presented by Milton Ulladulla Branch on September 21, was a spectacular success. Although numbers were down, the Ulladulla church hall, decorated with bright balloons and filled with Latin and African music, welcomed seventy-five members and guests.

Graciella Lavelle, the Zumba dance fitness instructor, the grand daughter of member Carmel Pirrello, who was joined by Grace Puglisi, gave us an amazing demonstration of what she calls, “therapy for the soul”. Graciella explained that Zumba had helped her recover from a debilitating health problem which caused her chronic pain. Since then, she has become an instructor and says that Zumba is “addictive, exhilarating and effective”. She showed us Zumba “gold” moves (for the active older participant) and this inspired many in the audience to get up off their chairs and Zumba!

Many lucky door prizes were won, the main raffle prize was a hand-made jewellery set made by talented member, Meg Thomas, and the coffee, cake and conversation was a good as it always is at the annual Spring Morning Tea.

Catholic Mission

September 6, 2011

The Executive and members of the Catholic Women’s League for the Diocese of Wollongong would be very conscious of the disaster of epic proportions facing families and children in the drought affected and politically unstable countries in the Horn of Africa, i.e. Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia.

Less understood is the vital role that The Pontifical Mission Societies (Catholic Mission in Australia) play in funding life enhancing community based projects for the benefit of children in over 160 countries. In 2009 The Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood (Children’s Mission in Australia) helped improve the lives of 2.6 million children. There was an increase on this figure in 2010. Project requests from Ecclesial authorities and church connected commun ities in overseas mission dioceses and territories include the meeting of short term (food, fresh water and medical care), long term (building, maintenance and staffing of schools and orphanages) and pastoral needs fo mission and recipients.

If any ladies of the Catholic Women’s League would like to donate to Catholic Mission they can go to the website; www.catholicmission.org.au   or contact Mike Deasy, Catholic Mission Diocesan Director for the Dioceses of Bathurst, Wilcannia-Forbes and Wollongong on: Phone: 4284 0970 or
